Teijin Limited is a leading supplier of plastic films and resins. The company has a joint venture with DuPont for the commercialization of polyester films (PET and PEN). Teijin also make polycarbonate resins for electronic materials. Teijin has improved the glass transition temperature of the polycarbonate films to be compatible with high temperature processes.

Enfucell Oy

Enfucell was founded in June 2002 after a decade of research on power sources for low power applications at the Automation Laboratory of The Helsinki University of Technology. It is based in Finland. Their main product is a flexible and thin battery made of low-cost industrial environmentally-friendly materials that are disposable with other household waste. The main target t markets are in RFID/logistics, cosmetics, and medical industry.

BrightVolt

BrightVolt, previously know as Solicore, is a single-use solid-state thin film lithium polymer battery company located in Lakeland, Florida. Their main product is Flexion and the main target markets are smart cards and medical devices.

Agfa Materials

Agfa has long been involved in printed electronics. The main interest has been around PEDOT:PSS (brand name: Orgacon) but recently they have launched a new conductive ink based on nanosilver. Agfa will continue to actively support PEDOT but has now bet on two horses in the printed electronics race. This profile is focused on Agfa's work on silver nanoparticle inks. Here, Agfa can bring scale to a business landscape otherwise largely dominated by small players.

Highlights from a printed electronics conference

SCHMID Group

Schmid was founded in 1864. Schmid provides manufacturing equipment for the photovoltaic (PV), PCB and flat panel industries. Its entry into the printed electronics market by selling inkjet printers was mainly from the need in the PV sector to use inkjet printing to print selective emitters. The printers are also used commercially to inkjet print etch resist in the PCB industry.

Muehlbauer

Mühlbauer Group was founded in 1981 and is headquartered in Germany. The company provides equipment for labels and cards and later moved into supplying equipment for the semiconductor business around smart cards, e-passports and RFID. In 2014 it has launched RFID products that bridge the company from RFID into printed electronics.
