A solid-state battery is an electrochemical energy storage device where the flow of current is regulated by the ion migration through the lattice of a solid electrolyte rather than through a liquid electrolytic solution. Solid-state batteries have been pursued by battery vendors, investors, automotive OEMs, etc. and they have driven a wave for academic research. This article will provide an introduction to solid-state batteries, their classification, value propositions and limitations.
