Presentation Summary

  • Time synchronized, channel hopping mesh WSN protocols, such as WirelessHART and 802.15.4E based protocols, enable the most reliable networks
  • Every node in these networks can run on batteries or energy harvesters, which enables sensors to be deployed in areas and applications that are not possible with other WSN approaches
  • Ultra low power networks make the use of energy harvesters as a power source more practical and cost effective, either as a primary source or combined with batteries to further prolong battery life
  • The emergence of internet protocol (IP) based standards, such as 6LoWPAN, combined with 802.15.4E further simplify the task of WSN application development, and IP provides a context through which WSN applications can be federated across a variety of technology platforms
