Speaker Biography (Matt Williams)

With a background in multidisciplinary design, Matt has experience in the design and procurement of many cladding systems and is well placed to co-ordinate the many engineering, architectural and fabrication issues which are key to successful façade design, having experience in the design development, code compliance and delivery of projects in the US, UK and throughout Europe, Russia, the Far East and the Middle East..
Arup offers a fully integrated design approach to façade design, considering the building envelope and environment performance holistically, balancing a variety of factors—aesthetics, performance, building code compliance, and cost-via the coordinated efforts of relevant disciplines: mechanical and structural engineering, façade design, fire safety, lighting, sustainability, materials, and acoustics. Through an integrated design process, the team works together to optimize a whole system, taking advantage of synergistic opportunities that would not be possible if each discipline operated separately.
Matt Williams leads the Façades practice in the Americas and delivers globally significant façade projects, for Arup, from the Los Angeles office, including the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Sainsbury Laboratory, Cambridge UK, Public Safety Building, San Francisco and Beijing Samsung Headquarters, China.
