Presentation Summary

1. An introduction to the technology of screen-printable piezoelectric materials will be presented with a focus on PZT (Lead Zirconate Titanate) thick films.
2. Basic electrical as well as piezoelectric properties of the PZT thick films will be discussed.
3. A broad range of possible application areas will be introduced, including: energy harvesting, acceleration sensors and acoustical devices.

Speaker Biography (Tomasz Zawada)

Tomasz Zawada, holds a PhD degree in Microelectronic Engineering, MSc degree in Electronic Engineering and MBA degree in Management of Technology. Tomasz has more than 10 years of experience in academic and industrial research in the fields of ceramic microsystems, microfluidics and piezoelectric materials and devices. He has authored and co-authored more than 60 scientific publications and reports. Currently, he is working as Engineering and Research Manager at Meggitt A/S, Denmark. His main professional interest is focused on applications of piezoelectric thick films in sensors, transducers and energy harvesting. Privately, he is sharing his free time between travelling and playing electric guitar.

Company Profile (Meggitt A/S)

Meggitt A/S logo
Meggitt A/S is a world-leading Danish manufacturer of high-quality piezoelectric materials. The company has more than 50 years of experience in developing new piezoelectric materials all the way to the production stage. Meggitt A/S is research-intensive, investing 10% of the turnover in research and development annually. The material programme of the company is very wide, spanning the range from PZT, including - standard as well as porous types and compositions specialized for high-intensity focused ultrasound, to lead-free materials and screen printed thick film based high frequency ultrasonic devices. Meggitt A/S has put a great effort into developing lead-free piezoelectric materials, being the first in Europe to bring these materials to the market. Within the last five years, Meggitt A/S has gained the leading position in the field of piezoceramic thick films with its InSensor™ brand.

Meggitt A/S is a member of a strong industrial group - Meggitt PLC, headquartered in the UK. Meggitt PLC is a global engineering group specialising in extreme environment components and smart sub-systems for aerospace, defence and energy markets. Some 10,000 people are employed across manufacturing facilities in Asia, Europe and North America and regional bases in Brazil, India and the Middle East. Meggitt's civil aerospace presence covers large commercial transports, regional aircraft, business jets, helicopters and general aviation. Its defence markets cover all military aircraft types, land systems, naval platforms and aerial, land-based and marine threat simulation training. The group's growing presence in energy is driven by our core fluid controls, heat management and sensing and monitoring capabilities, many of which are deployed to help reduce the maintenance costs, fuel consumption and carbon emissions of industrial gas and steam turbines
