Presentation Summary

Seeking for smart gas monitoring solutions, two challenges are currently faced:
  • Selectivity issue to detect specific hazardous gases, especially volatile compounds.
  • Need for low-cost devices compatible with IoT system integration.
At VOCSens, we are deeply focused on the development of ultra-low-power multi-pixel and CMOS integrated gas microsensors, together with humidity, temperature and pressure metering.

Speaker Biography (Thomas Walewyns)

Thomas Walewyns received the M.Sc. degree in electromechanical engineering and a Ph.D. degree in engineering sciences, both at the Université catholique de Louvain (UCLouvain), Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, in 2010 and 2016 respectively. From 2013 to 2015, he was also carrying out an Executive Master in Management at the Louvain School of Management. His technological interests are related to co-integrated CMOS nano-/micro-electromechanical devices, ultra-low-power sensors, autonomous systems, microfabrication and nanotechnology. He is currently Co-Founder & CEO of the spin-off VOCSens, focusing on the development and commercialization of ultra-low-power smart gas sensors for IoT applications.

Company Profile (VOCSens)

VOCSens is a spin-off company of the UCLouvain, based in Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium, specialized in smart gas sensing solutions.
Our key product, EnviCam®, is a cutting-edge technology gas sensor module for both indoor and outdoor environmental monitoring, industrial, security and health applications, transforming physicochemical parameters into processed data, towards continuous, dynamic and discriminated information. Convinced of a new paradigm, our R&D team is deeply focused on the development of state-of-the-art ultra-low-power, multi-pixel and CMOS integrated gas microsensors.
This disruptive solution substantially reduces operational and maintenance costs, while offering high level of autonomy, selectivity and sensitivity.
