SABIC was presented with a challenge to utilize Large Format additive manufacturing in marine applications. Due to the demands of the design and its application, the part in question needed to be re-imagined for the new process with printability, secondary processing (a robust outer coating meant for marine applications), and assembly in mind. The team at SABIC utilized a multi-part approach, a portfolio of recently launched LFAM materials, and in-house process development on SABIC's own LFAM printer to bring a yacht hull section from conceptualization to realization. The result demonstrated a new way to fabricate parts for the customer that could save production time, cost, and enable more freedom of design.
