SMA Actuators For Next Generation User Experiences (Sensors Europe 2019)

This presentation will show Cambridge Mechatronics' platform technology based on shape memory alloy (SMA) smart material actuators. Highlighted will be a number of SMA actuator application areas: smartphone cameras, facial recognition, augmented reality and haptics.

After working in the field of printed electronics for over 10 years, Alexander is now the business development manager for Cambridge Mechatronics. His responsibilities are to market the company's SMA technology offering and to increase sales in mobile handsets. Alexander Doust has a degree from Imperial College and a PhD from the University of Toronto.

 

Cambridge Mechatronics Limited (CML) is a multidisciplinary engineering company that leverages smart materials to design and develop miniature motors (actuators) for use across a variety of applications.

CML's patented platform technology uses a smart material called shape memory alloy (SMA). CML has world-leading expertise in designing SMA-based actuators for electronic devices. The SMA wires in CML's actuators are less than a human hair in diameter and can be controlled to an accuracy of the wavelength of light. These actuators are particularly suited to applications that require high precision and force in a compact and lightweight design.
