IDTechEx Hong Kong event award winners
Oct 27, 2010

IDTechEx held their Printed Electronics Asia and Wireless Sensor Networks, Energy Harvesting & RFID conference in Hong Kong last week. This was the first time all these topics were brought together at one event. At the end of the first day - which included keynote presentations from Adidas, DuPont, Toppan Printing, CSIRO, ASTRI, and Samsung - this year's IDTechEx Awards were presented during the conference drinks reception. The entries were judged by the event co-organisers, Dr Ivan Sham of ASTRI, Dr Frank Tong from LSCM R&D Centre, and Dr Peter Harrop, Chairman of IDTechEx.
The Winners
Best In Printed Electronics Award
This year's Best in Printed Electronics Award went to PARU CO. Ltd. of Korea. Dr Jin-Soo Noh accepted the award for their work developing a low-cost gravure printing process that prints RFID tags. This new technology was viewed by the judges as having a good technical background and a high potential for future commercialization. Dr Noh commented that PARU/Sunchon University were working hard to "open the printed electronics market."

Best In Energy Harvesting Award
The Best in Energy Harvesting Award was won by TPL Inc. for their product, EnerPak. Hap Stoller, President of TPL, Inc. said, "We are excited for the EnerPak to be recognized with the Best in Energy Harvesting Award and excited to have seen the benefits and practical application of low power energy harvesting technologies begin to be considered in more and more commercial applications in 2010. As the harvesting, power management, storage and sensing technologies continue to be demonstrated and integrated, the advantages of devices that provide their own power will become more and more clear to end users. We are working on a number of commercial and military applications and look forward to working with additional customers and partners on other opportunities."
Best In RFID/WSN Award
SoftDEL Systems was the recipient of this year's Best in RFID/WSN Award. Chirag Nanavati, Chief Marketing Officer, commented that SoftDEL was excited and honoured that the judges had selected Aerodel Director, an industrial wireless network management system. "Aerodel Director will allow plant control engineers to visualize, monitor, troubleshoot, and secure their wireless sensor network deployments with ease thus increasing confidence in industrial wireless network deployments."
Best In Show Award
This award has been chosen by the conference delegates to recognise the best exhibition booth and was presented to EnOcean. "We're very proud of receiving this international award", said Michael Gartz, International Sales Manager of EnOcean. "It's not only recognition of our product innovation but it is also a significant milestone in the establishment of EnOcean technology as the wireless standard for sustainable buildings in Asia."

IDTechEx would like to thank all companies that submitted their entries for the 2010 awards. We encourage companies to submit applications for future events, to gain due recognition for their work.
IDTechEx's next event is the Energy Harvesting & Storage USA and Wireless Sensor Networks & RTLS USA in Cambridge, MA in November (www.IDTechEx.com/Cambridge). Soon after, the Printed Electronics series of events heads to Santa Clara, CA in December (www.IDTechEx.com/SantaClara) for what looks to be the biggest Printed Electronics event yet.
