Efficient Heating For Electric Cars (Electric Vehicles: Everything is Changing. Europe 2016)

Dr Bernhard Budaker, Group Manager
Fraunhofer IPA
Germany

Presentation Summary

Intensive research effort in developing new technologies and systems to reach the goal of high distribution of electromobility (e-mobility) has been spend by European Automotive industry through the last decade. Till now the absolute figure of electric cars driving through German cities is still very limited. For most people electromobility seems to be not the most comfortable way of mobility. The main challenges to enable a comfortable electromobility are in the field of infrastructure, easy and safe way of charging technologies, affordable price but also in the field of comfort while using the system. We at Fraunhofer IPA developed a surface heating system which is easy to use, highly energy efficient and makes fast heating of the vehicle interior possible. The system is based on carbo nano tube technologies and is currently integrated in a test car.

Company Profile (Fraunhofer IPA)

Fraunhofer IPA logo
For more than ten years now, the researchers from the Fraunhofer IPA department »Functional Materials« have been developing new materials and products qualities based on carbon nanotubes and other allotropes such as graphene. Inspired by topics such as energy and resources efficiency, we work in our department at synthesis, modeling, dispersion and application of nanostructured carbon. Due to the high technology standards and integration methods, we are able to find customized solutions very quickly and offer our customers a unique range of services.
