Gore has a long standing history of innovation in wearable technology areas such as medical devices, fabrics and electronics. This presentation looks at the requirements for next generation wearable devices and discusses how advanced materials are solving fundamental challenges of comfort, wearability and durability for both clinical and consumer applications.
Speaker Biography (Sean Coyer)
Sean Coyer specializes in identifying emerging technologies with commercial potential and translating them into product portfolios for medical and life science applications. In his seven years with W. L. Gore & Associates, Sean has directed technology and product development efforts in the Medical Product Division focusing on stents and stent graphs, as well as front-end digital health innovation initiatives.
Sean is skilled working at the intersection of technical feasibility and market needs. Using the Lean Innovation methodology, he is experienced in aligning technical product development with market requirements, and defining the business models to bring products to fruition. He has in-depth knowledge of health economics and the unique demands of clinical operations, in addition to his material science expertise.
With a Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Georgia Tech, Sean worked as a research scientist at IBM Research and the Max Planck Institutes in Germany. He enjoys coaching Ph.D. candidates, particularly in applying scientific expertise to new product and business development. As the Digital Health Champion at the Gore Innovation Center, Sean will identify emerging areas for exploration and work with partners to solve difficult performance challenges with advanced materials.
