Speaker Biography (Joseph Stetter)
Joe received a Ph.D in Physical Chemistry from the University at Buffalo (SUNY) in 1975 and for more than 40 years, has been at the forefront of chemical sensor and associated technology as a leading researcher, entrepreneur, author, and educator. In his early career, Dr. Stetter developed patented electrochemical sensors, the first operational sensor-array based instrument (electronic nose), and the first electrochemical dosimeters for gas detection. Products he championed for personal protection and environmental monitoring saved lives, improved worker health, and promoted the well-being of people and the planet. As Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology, Dr. Stetter taught both chemistry and entrepreneurship, while advancing the applications of nanotechnology in gas detection. Dr. Stetter has founded several technology-based sensor companies, received numerous awards for his work, and published hundreds of scientific papers. With over 50 patents, his work is the foundation of many sensor and gas detection products with some in for more than 25 years. At KWJ Engineering Inc. and with the founding of Spec Sensors, LLC, Dr. Stetter not only continues to innovate and develop products for the social good, but also mentors a new generation of engineers and scientists.

KWJ employs a small but rapidly growing number of people dedicated to engineer, manufacture, sell and service gas detection systems and related technology. KWJ's staff consists of Ph.D to student level professionals who work in a collaborative and entrepreneurial environment for development of new products and delivery of standard products. KWJ has a manufacturing group for standard products that include in-line CO monitors, wearable monitors for toxic gases e.g., the "Pocket CO", ozone measurement equipment for ozone in air and water, and unique MEMS, electrochemical, and solid-state sensors.
