Summary

  • Recent work on low-power RF-circuits and RF IC technology, carried out by
Philips Research Labs in Eindhoven, and Philips Semiconductors in Hamburg,
has resulted in fully integrated, ultra thin (5-20um) and flexible RFID tags
that can be embedded, for example, in paper.

  • These short-range tags need no external connections, and have a small,
integrated antenna on board. Therefore, assembly costs are dramatically
reduced compared with those of conventional approaches where an external
antenna is used.

  • The paper will describe the underlying technology, low-power circuit
design, and operation of the new tags.
