DuPont Teijin Films(DTF) has developed a family of highly stable substrates specifically for the flexible electronics market. Melinex® and Teonex® are biaxially oriented crystalline polyesters and they are emerging as the lead materials for flexible displays and printable electronics. This contribution will discuss the new trends in the family of base substrates; thinner, lower shrinkage, improved shrinkage uniformity, improved flatness, and improved cleanliness as well as a broader range of surface types and treatments. Understanding the influence of these factors is critical to achieving the performance required of substrates for flexible electronic applications. The contribution will also discuss the varying substrate requirements for different applications and will highlight the latest examples of film in use.
