Mr Donald E Ray, Director, North America
Barcodes were originally printed by large scale printers such as Standard Register and RR Donnelley. Only after table top commercial barcode printers were developed in the later 1980's, did automatic identification accelerate in manufacturing and logistics. The efficiency of distributed printed labels, with on demand data, finally allowed data automation using barcode technologies to become fully accepted in commercial environments. Are we at a comparable crossroads with RFID? This is an interesting question worth considering now that printed antennas have shown impressive results. Maybe all we need now is an efficient IC attachment method?
