Speaker Biography (Richard Colson)

Richard Colson has a BA in Fine Art (Painting) from Goldsmiths' College, an MA in Electronic Arts from Middlesex University and a Certificate of Education. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
He holds the post of Reader in Art and Digital Media Practice in the Faculty of Arts at Thames Valley University
Each year, he co-directs the Takeaway Festival of Do-It-Yourself Media at the Dana Centre, Science Museum.
He is author of the Fundamentals of Digital Art, AVA Publishing (UK) Ltd (2007)
He is in the process of establishing the Fugitive Visions lab for research in digital art and media

Our society is being changed by the impact of technology in its many forms. We need opportunities to reflect and analyze the key trends and to step back from our activities, listen to the views of others and even learn new skills.
 
The annual Takeaway Festival of DIY Media has a role to play here. Since 2006, it as been providing just such a space where you can see, listen and learn. It has brought together artists, performers, social commentators, curators, technologists, scientists and manufacturers. It has run a rich programme of talks, workshops and as helped influence current thinking and practice within a number of different fields.
