Scania and Rio Tinto are developing more agile autonomous haul trucks at a mine in Western Australia's Pilbara region to pursue potential environmental and productivity benefits.

To further strengthen the sustainable value chain, SCA has, together with Scania, developed the world's first electric timber truck with a capacity of 80 tonnes. SCA's goal is to make the entire value chain fossil-free.

In September 2020, Scania (part of VW's Traton Group) launched their first pure electric truck for both its L- and P-series cabs.

An electric Scania Heavy Tipper will operate in the LKAB mine in Malmberget, in northern Sweden, alongside an electric crane truck specially adapted for these mining operations. This customer close development gives Scania a chance to test and operate fully electric trucks in a demanding underground mine environment.
