Cultured Meat Symposium 2022
01 November 2022 by Andy Ko
The Cultured Meat Symposium 2022 (CMS2022) is an annual event in San Francisco for the cultured meat industry. Attending was a wide selection of cultured meat players, including market leaders such as Eat Just, Upside Foods, Aleph Farms, and Wildtype. There were also companies representing other parts of the value chain such as media and ingredient producers, bioreactor manufacturing, regulation experts, academics, and more. Also in attendance were some proponents of auxiliary markets, such as the pet food industry. The overarching themes of the symposium set by the organizers were commerce and creativity. Commerce means the overarching question of how players will make revenue and profit in cultured meats. It refers to the industry's common challenges of introducing the world to cultured meat products. With a handful of companies moving into scale-up, several go-to-market strategies are being created. Creativity is a broader theme; it aims to challenge the industry to find creative solutions to the bottlenecks that limit the industry's development, such as scaffolding, flavor, and scaling up. In this event summary article, IDTechEx reviews the topics discussed at CMS2022, technology updates, and the development of the industry.
