Alkaline Fuel Cell Technologies

Alkaline fuel cells (AFCs) are one of the oldest fuel cell technologies, first utilised for the Apollo Space missions in the 1960s. AFCs utilise a potassium hydroxide electrolyte contained in a porous matrix and operate at temperatures from 20-200°C.
In this article, IDTechEx explores the technology and specifications of AFCs and the development of anion exchange membrane fuel cells as an alternative to AFCs.
