A mobile alternative to stationary Level 2 chargers, mobile EV chargers are battery-powered — providing rapid DC charging without the need for complex and costly electrical infrastructure. IDTechEx noticed this emerging segment of chargers on display at various events globally and noticed many new hardware manufacturers exhibiting their own portable solutions. This also introduces a new business model — infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) — which caters to grid constraint urban areas where demand for fast charging exists.
