Siemens opens facility for 3D printing metal components
Siemens has opened a production facility for metal 3D printed components in FinspĂ„ng. The investment of around 200 million Swedish Krona (€21.4 million) is the first step in the company's plans for the mass manufacture and repair of metal parts with additive manufacturing.

Clearinks Displays
Clearinks Displays is a reflective display technology supplier. It was re-founded in 2012 to commercialize its version of electrophoretic display technology. Its key claimed selling points over standard electroscopic technology are its video (60s per second) and full colour capabilities. The company has raised $10m to commercialize this technology and is therefore running a lean and capital-light operation.

48V mild hybrids are electric vehicles?
Wikipedia says no. Wikipedia is wrong. It correctly identifies electric vehicles as those propelled by an electric motor for some or all of the time. However, from the first volume production of 48V hybrids in 2017, most will be capable of just that in the form of silent all-electric take-off just like a strong hybrid.

Avegant
IDTechEx spoke to Joerg Tewes, CEO of Avegant, a company founded in September 2012. Avegant has developed a head mounted display, a device that is both a VR headset but also a video and audio infotainment device. They completed proof of concept for their micromirror display technique in April 2013, finalised the engineering design in 2013 and then began the alpha test in 2014. The final device, the Glyph, is currently available to order at the price of $699.
