IDTechEx Asks if Thin Film PV Is an Answer to Today's Energy Threats
Photovoltaics is the fastest-growing energy source. Of the thin film PV technologies, cadmium telluride (CdTe) dominates. It is largely concentrated within the US, where it accounts for 40 % of US utility-scale PV power. In recent years, the commercial efficiency of CdTe panels has been playing a catch-up game with conventional silicon and is currently trailing by ~3 %. Efficiency, however, is not the only deciding factor.

Gel-Like, Radioactive Implant Obliterates Pancreatic Cancer in Mice
Biomedical engineers have demonstrated the most effective treatment for pancreatic cancer ever recorded in mouse models. While most mouse trials consider simply halting growth a success, the new treatment completely eliminated tumors in 80 percent of mice across several model types, including those considered the most difficult to treat.

Wireless Charging to Pull the Plug on Charging Stations
The development of wireless charging systems for electric vehicles (EVs) has slowly picked up momentum over the past decade. This charging solution relies on the principle of resonant inductive coupling to achieve wireless power transfer (WPT) from a ground-based pad to a vehicle-fitted pad. Drivers should simply align their vehicles with the ground pad for charging to begin automatically, eliminating the need to plug in.

Scalable Perovskite Solar Cells
A research team has succeeded in manufacturing potentially high efficiency, stable, and scalable perovskite solar cells via vacuum deposition apparatus, a method of fabricating organic light-emitting display devices. Such method is also advantageous for the mass production of batteries, which is expected to further accelerate the commercialization of the PSCs, according to the research team.

Autonomous Modular Vehicle to Alleviate Agriculture Labour Shortages
The multi-purpose Unmanned Ground Vehicle can be supervised in a fleet of vehicles by a single human operator. The vehicle uses a combination of vision systems and other technologies to sense the environment - to optimize tasks and allow intelligent and targeted application of inputs such as sprays. Growers will be able to rotate multiple tools on the highly adaptable and configurable agriculture platform, depending on the day's work - for jobs such as spraying, weed control, mulching, mowing and crop analysis.

The Attempt to Achieve Standardization within the Graphene Industry
The true description of graphene is that of a single atomic layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal array. However, the nanocarbon material landscape is much more complicated than this simple statement, with single-layer, few-layer, multi-layer, graphene nanoplatelets (GNPs) and both graphene oxide (GO) and reduced graphene oxide (rGO) all to be considered as types of graphene.
